Bold Nature

I've been a huge fan of the Glasgow-based textile design studio Timorous Beasties for a number of years. So imagine my delight to find they have teamed up with Vintage Books to create these gorgeous book designs on some of my favourite natural history autobiographies. I stumbled across them as I was searching for Mark Cocker's Crow Country, one of the five titles in the series and couldn't resist getting them all!

*edit: I originally stated that Kate Constable's Crow Country was one of the books in the series. In fact it was Mark Cocker's book Crow Country that is included. I have made the correction.*

The Bell Jar

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath has been on my to-read list for a number of years. I was familiar with her poetry, but I had never had a chance to read her semi-autobiographical novel. I finally came across a lovely used copy at Powell's Books in Portland before I made the big move here to Norway. I enjoyed the book very much and I find myself continuously fascinated by the author so I thought I would pay tribute to her with a couple of book cover designs. I love the idea of the suffocating but beautiful bell jar and I chose poppy flowers to symbolise her fragile state and the opiate qualities they possess.
